Several years ago, I taught a series on Psalm 63 to a group of missionaries in Romania. The words of that Psalm confronted me in multiple ways. After studying and teaching the Psalm, I was undone. I found the personal statements that David makes both convicting and breathtaking at the same time. He sums up his heart in Psalm 63:5 “My soul is satisfied..” I have asked myself over and over, “Is that true of me?” I do not want the answer to be “I hope so” or “I want it to be.”
With a desire to speak the truth and to not try to be something that I am not, here is my answer. I am simply on a journey of seeking my satisfaction in the Lord Jesus Christ. I have yet to find Him lacking. My problem is that I return to some form idolatry time and time again--seeking my satisfaction somewhere else. As a pastor, I have often sought to seek my satisfaction in the church and in my work. I could go on to list other places that I have sought my satisfaction. Let’s just say that I share your struggles. As the commercial says, “life comes at you fast.” I seem to get caught up in the current of the speed of life. Before I know it, I have drifted away. Thanks be unto God that He seeks me out and that He calls me back. Praise God that He welcomes me to the table that He has prepared before me and that He bids me to come eat and be filled. I want the rest of my life to be caught up in seeking my satisfaction in Chirst and to encouraging others to do the same. It is to that end that this site is dedicated. May the Lord find me faithful.
Welcome to Satisfied Soul.
I am the Pastor of Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC, where most every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, I get the privilege of preaching the Word of God. Preaching and study have been a passion of mine for many years. I think that it is incredible that God’s people support me and my family so that I can dedicate my life to the proclamation of the Truth.
I am blessed to have been married to Celeste since 1989. Celeste is a full time mom, teacher, homemaker, gardener, and great cook. The Lord has blessed us with four children: Jacob, Anna, Mary Claire, and Andrew. There is never a dull moment at our home. The kids currently have a pot-bellied pig, 4 goats, and the biggest goldfish that I have ever seen.
